Narrative Therapy

Narrative Therapy is a collaborative and strength-based approach that views individuals as the authors of their own stories. It acknowledges that everyone has a personal narrative shaped by experiences, relationships, and cultural contexts. When utilizing a Narrative approach in therapy, my clients and I work together to explore, understand, and reframe these narratives to create positive change.

Central to Narrative Therapy is the idea that people are not defined by their problems; rather, problems exist within the narratives of their lives. Together, we examine the stories you tell yourself and the beliefs that shape your experiences. By externalizing issues and separating them from your identity, you can foster a sense of agency and empower yourself to reshape your narrative. You challenge the story you have carried and step into a stronger and more authentic identity that is backed by a narrative that gives it shape.

In sessions together, I work hard to create a safe and non-judgmental space for you to explore and share your experiences. Together, we engage in a process of reflection, examining the influence of societal norms, family of origin messages, cultural expectations, and personal values on your story. Through this exploration, we uncover alternative perspectives, strengths, and untapped resources within your emerging narrative.

Narrative Therapy is about rewriting the script of your life. Together, we identify and challenge unhelpful patterns, question limiting beliefs, and explore new ways of understanding your experiences. By embracing your unique strengths and values, you can author a narrative that aligns with your authentic self and aspirations.

When I work from a Narrative perspective, my goal is to empower you to become the expert of your own life. We work collaboratively to identify the skills and knowledge you possess, fostering resilience and enabling you to face life’s challenges with confidence. Through this process, you’ll be encouraged to develop a deeper understanding of your story’s impact on your well-being and the potential for positive change.
